Great news! You can now check out books from the Lyme Public Library! They are doing curbside pickup, so your parents can call or e-mail the library to request materials. If you don't already have a library card, parents can request one by calling or emailing the library directly (staff@lymepl.org). Click here for more information. Watch the video below to see how to search the catalog at the Lyme Public Library.

Choose an optional activity to go along with the story:
- Gollie chooses to take an adventure to the Andes Mountains. Where would you like to go? If you have a globe or map, choose a place you would like to explore. You could also go to Google Earth on the computer and find a place to visit! If you’ve never used Google Earth before, you can watch the video below to learn about it.
- Bink’s most marvelous companion is Fred (or is it Gollie?). Who is your most marvelous companion?
- Write a short story about 2 best friends.

This week we will read more Kate DiCamillo. A great place to do that is Tumblebooks, which is in ClassLink. I would like you to read/watch Mercy Watson Thinks Like a Pig, and you can read any other books while you're there!
In the illustrator’s note for Mercy Watson Thinks Like a Pig, Chris Van Dusen says that when he was figuring out how to illustrate Francine Poulet, he decided that she had to look like a chicken.
Optional activities this week:
Can you draw a character who looks like an animal? Need some inspiration? Check out these animal livecams of real animals around the world.
Live Cams at the Smithsonian National Zoo (check out the new cheetah cubs on their live cam!)

Week of 5/18/20
This week we will continue to explore Kate DiCamillo's writing by reading Good Rosie on Tumblebooks. If you don't remember how to get to TumbleBooks, or need a reminder on how to search it, please watch my video above from the week of 5/11.
Optional activities:
- Make a Comic:
- One of the reasons so many kids (and adults) love Good Rosie, is because it's a graphic novel. Creating graphic novels (or comics) is fun, and challenging, because you need to use both words and pictures to tell a story. You can show what the characters are thinking, or use dialogue to move the story along. You can also use images, props and backgrounds to show the setting. If you'd like to make a comic, the website ReadWriteThink has a comic creator that is easy and fun to use. If you have a printer, you can print them out when you're done! Watch the video below for directions.
- Learn more about dogs!
- Read DK Find Out! to learn about all kinds of dogs, from domestic pets to the Ethipoian Wolf!
Week of 5/25/20
This week we finish our author study, I hope you enjoyed learning about Kate DiCamillo and reading her books!
Please go to TumbleBooks and read the picture book Louise, the Adventures of a Chicken. If you don't remember how to get to TumbleBooks, or need a reminder on how to search it, please watch my video above from the week of 5/11.
Optional Activities:
- Looking for adventure? If you are like Louise, and want to explore the world, go to National Geographic Kids and watch some amazing videos from around the world. Destination World lets you explore the continents, and National Geographic Explore shows you the wonders of many different countries.
- Make a Map of Lousie's Adventures! Louise travels from the farm to the ocean, the circus, and the mysterious bazaar. Make a detailed map showing all of the places she travels throughout the book. Istanbul, Turkey is a city famous for its markets and bazaars. Check it out on the map below and get inspiration for your own map!
